Homemakers and hair

Domestic Felicity: The burden of guilt

I know the guilt these women talk about. I have often felt it myself. To be sure, I feel it less and less. The day I sat down and figured up how much it would COST my family for me to work outside the home I began to feel much less guilt (something on the order of 1 1/2 times what my Hubby makes!).

And, as Anna says about her Hubby, my Hubby would work the same hours whether I earned an income or not. It is just part of the field he works in.

The fact is we have all been brainwashed to not see the priceless value of the work a mom does at home raising her own kids and providing a refreshing place for Hubby to regenerate at the end of the day (instead of him having an endless to-do list). We need to learn to value what is actually valuable.

Now, having said that, some observant readers may have noticed a new tab at the top leading to a hair accessory site. Yes, I have signed up to be a consultant. But it isn't exactly to earn money (though if you want to buy some of these beautiful hair clips I would LOVE to sell them to you:-)

We have five daughters. All five of them and I have long, blonde hair, as do I. For those who might not know, blonde hair is often thinner in the individual hair shaft than darker hair, meaning all but one of us has relatively thin hair.  (Why the one with thicker hair? No idea. Must have come from my Hubby's mom who passed away before we began dating because it sure didn't come from my family. Even Hubby's hair is thin, so it's a bit of a mystery.)

And slippery. Did I mention slippery?

So, as much fun as it is to dress up little girl's hair, it is also quite frustrating. I get their hair put in in a pretty "do" with a nice barrette, only to have the barrette to fall out in ten minutes, lost for all time.

Ponytail holders pull the hair out by the roots.

Hair clamps get stepped on, used for dragon teeth (what can I say. I have four boys too), and just generally break.

As a result, we spend a fortune (all at Dollar Tree and Walmart no less!) in hair accessories! I am constantly replacing ponytail holders, barrets, hair clamps, etc.

A mini hair clip. I just put this in her hair for a quick picture.
This is not economical in the least.

Lilla Rose Hair Clips just might be my solution.

We have bought one clip to verify the claims of other frustrated moms on the internet, and it worked:-) The mini-sized clip stayed in my girl's hair even though I told her to go play on the church playground and try to get it to come out. And when I did take it out, it didn't take a handful of hair with it!

My hopes are that this investment in better quality hair accessories will eventually pay off big time by eliminating this repeating cost in our family.

And it gives me and my mom something to buy for Christmas and Birthdays to boot!

(Just to make it clear, if you buy a clip through the tab at top, I do make a small amount of money. This doesn't raise your costs any. My part is just a share of the profits.)
